Discover Moraira’s beautiful beaches and best restaurants
Discover Moraira
The old fishing village of Moraira has not been affected by mass tourism. Do not expect activities such as amusement parks or large nightclubs. It is a friendly town without extreme high-rise buildings, where you will find mainly restaurants, terraces, small stores, and real estate agents. In the marina of Moraira, you can see the fish swimming in the clear water. Part of Moraira is pedestrianised, which makes strolling around well possible. On the village’s south side is the “Castillo de Moraira”, more of an eye-catcher than a real castle. In June and July, there are local fiestas in Moraira. Tourists come mainly from England, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. So you will regularly hear people speaking your native language, but you can ignore that. You are here for your relaxation!
Beaches of Moraira
“Vamos a la Playa, ohohohohoh” Let’s go to the beach! You choose a coastal town for a reason, after all. Going to the beach to walk or engage in activities such as swimming or snorkelling must almost be among your favourite pastimes then.
Playa? Why does it say Platja? Very simple. In Spanish (Castilian), we talk about Playa, which means beach. But the native population here speaks mostly Valencian. In Valencian, the beach is Platja. In practice, you see that these two designations for the beach are used interchangeably. Moraira’s beaches are so-called “blue flag beaches.” That means they meet the criteria of safety, hygiene (showers!), and good water quality. There are many beaches in Moraira. We highlight 4 of them here.
Platja de l’Ampolla
The Platja de l’Ampolla on the centre’s south side is Moraira’s largest and widest beach. This is a good family beach with fine sand and a self-service restaurant. Suppose you order something that requires more time to prepare. In that case, you will be served by a waiter machine, eliminating the need to wait in line for an extended period. The beach on the right side is a little rockier. This is an excellent snorkelling location. A nice playground is available for children, and a small “creek” runs across the beach. An exceptionally safe environment for toddlers to play with sand and water! Parking is available in the village at the Platja de l’Ampolla. If you arrive early enough, you can even park in the shade on the south side, accessible via the road towards Calpe.
Platja Platgetes
Platja Platgetes is located a little south of Moraira, on the coastal road towards Calpe. It is a relatively quiet sandy beach with some rocky ends. Small and with excellent restaurants along the promenade. The promenade is also lovely for strolling when it is a little less warm. There is plenty of (free) parking at the Platja Platgetes.
Cala de l’Andrago
The Cala de l’Andrago has a slight stretch of sandy beach and other rocks. Perfect for snorkelers but fun to look for “critters ” with the kids. Hold them well, though! It is a bit rough. In contrast, the modern complex, including an excellent -more high end- cocktail bar, stands out nicely. A perfect place to enjoy the view, especially in the early and late seasons. Ample parking is available at Cala de l’Andrago.
Restaurants in Moraira
To say that Moraira is one big restaurant is stretching it. Still, there are so many restaurants in Moraira that even if you stay longer, you could eat somewhere different every night. Moraira’s restaurant prices are significantly lower than what we are used to in the Netherlands, Belgium, England and Germany. Of course, prices are not as standard as in the Spanish countryside because the area is too touristic. Still, restaurants in Moraira have an excellent price-quality ratio in general. Most restaurants speak a variety of languages.
Brasserie Vivaldi €€
Whether you fancy a tasty cocktail or a delicious cup of coffee, a tasty lunch or dinner, this is all possible at Brasserie Vivaldi. The long opening hours and open every day make Brasserie Vivaldi an attractive opportunity. Nowadays, Brasserie Vivaldi also has a sandwich service, which you can order on the website, and which will then be delivered to you on the beach. How comfortable is that! Mex y go €€
A small restaurant with an extensive menu. Don’t expect table linens and crystal glasses, just honest Mexican food. Very nice is that you can specify how you want it with many things, and certain dishes can even be composed entirely to your choice. Friendly service. Just pay attention to the opening hours. By Spanish standards, this Mex y go opens early and closes pretty early. As the name Mex y go says: take out is also possible! Facebook page facebookpagina
Bits & Bubbels €€
During your stay in Moraira, you must visit here at least once. More is of course possible because you can come here for a delicious breakfast, lunch and of course dinner. (This differs during the winter months). You should definitely try the delicious tapas with a twist from Indonesian cuisine.

Sabores I en II €
In the past you had to drive to Benitachell to eat at Sabores. Nowadays we also have a 2nd Sabores on the coastal road from Moraira to Calpe. It’s such a fantastic restaurant that we’ll mention it anyway. Although the name Sabores sounds Spanish, and it is, this is really an Asian restaurant, and in the broadest sense of the word. You will find Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes here, all very fresh and of high quality. And all that for almost nothing. Extremely friendly service, plenty of parking. Sabores: muy saboroso!
